So my fellow bloggers, last night, me and 7 other scouts of a reletivly same age as me did a presentation on our queen scout award, which we have now technicaly achieved! Hurrah!
The queen scout is the highest achievable award in youth scouting (meaning people under the age of 25). We had to do many things to achieve this award: do a skill, physical and service for 12 months, camp for 18 nights (which we all definatly have done), complete a resedential (which i did via the Jamboree) and complete an expedition. The other things i can't talk about too much so i'll go more in detail with the expedition, because thats more fun.
We completed our expedition by hiking from Melrose Abby to Holy Island, along St. Cuthberts way, this, was 60 miles. It almost killed me, but as you can see, as i am not writing from the grave, i survived! It was a brilliant experience.
This is our Queen Scout team, minus one because he couldn't come. Behind is Melrose Abby which means that this picture was taken right at the beginning. Thats why we are smiling, we didn't realise the horror that was infront of off. Nahh, just kidding, it wasn't too bad, however if a similar picture was taken at the end, we wouldn't look the same.
This picture is not so happy as the one before. This is the first campsite at a place called Brownrigg, and i don't know if you can tell but it was actully CHUCKING IT DOWN. Now, this may not have been so bad if tents had already been up, but no. No, life isn't that easy, we had to put them up, IN THE RAIN. So yeah, we got soaked, had no tea, and went to bed at 7. However this was a good thing in the fact i wasn't tired in the morning because i had about 13 hours sleep, more than i would have at home!!
This was St. Cuthberts 'Cave.' I've put 'Cave' because it wasn't really a cave, but just a overhang of rock really. Although it was rather impressive and there was imprints on the rock from 1752! This was our last stop off point before we reached Holy Island, so it was almost at the end of our journey.
When we did finnish, it was a brilliant sense of achievement and i realised that i actully really enjoyed this hike, rather than the other ones which where horrific and i neally died. I swear.
If you are a scout reading this, urge your leaders to help you achieve your queen scout award because it is really worth it! And now that we have achieved it we actully get to go to Windsor where we may have the chance to meet the queen if she awards it, which is a bit unlikley, she is a busy woman, but she might!
Bon Voyage!
